Terms & Conditions

Terms and conditions for borrowing University equipment:

Students may borrow University equipment under the following terms and conditions:

  1. 1. No equipment may be removed from the University premises without the approved Risk Assessment (for items that require RA) and a premade and confirmed booking.

  1. 2. The booking must be made on Siso by the student at least 3 working days prior to the collection date and have an approved Risk Assessment before collection. The Kit Room staff cannot approve any Risk Assessments, and it is the student’s responsibility to ensure their RA is approved promptly.

  1. 3. The borrower ensures that the equipment is returned to the University in the same condition it was received. No reconfiguration, modification, dismantling or removal of parts is permitted.

  1. 4. In order to claim for equipment losses under the University's property insurance policy, the Department must (a) demonstrate that the equipment was listed in the University's inventory; (b) demonstrate that the borrower had been granted written permission to remove the equipment from University premises prior to the loss occurring; (c) where the loss occurred as a result of theft from a residence, vehicle or other premises, produce a copy of a police report.

  1. 5. The University accepts no liability for any damage to third party property and/or persons arising out of the use of the equipment by the borrower. The borrower agrees to indemnify the University against all third-party claims, actions, and demands arising from the use of the equipment.

  1. 6. Any carriage/transport costs arising from the removal or return of the borrowed equipment shall be borne by the borrower.

  1. 7. The equipment remains the property of the University of Greenwich, and the University reserves the right to recall the equipment at short notice if required for other University business.

  1. 8. Improper handling of equipment (e.g., negligence, incompetence, damage) may result in temporary revoked access to the previously borrowed item. In this case the training pass will be removed from Siso and the user will be unable to book the item again. Students might request re-training to earn back access to the item, but such training might only be available outside of term time and cannot be guaranteed.

  1. 9. Where there is evidence of a serious case of user negligence resulting in damage or loss to the equipment, the student will be removed from access assigned to their year and only be able to access lower tier equipment. For example: Year 3 and 2 students will be moved down to Year 1 equipment; Year 1 and MA students will only have access to basic equipment. This penalty will last until the start of the summer term of the current academic year.

  1. 10. Revoked access or training will be considered on a case-to-case basis, at the discretion of the Kit Room, and in consultation with a leading tutor. Students with revoked access will nevertheless still be able to take out basic, lowest-tier equipment, to enable them to complete their coursework.

  1. 11. Any changes to the equipment pick up and drop off times (including both early and late drop offmust be confirmed via email or by phone to the FTV team (ftvsupport@gre.ac.uk or 020 8331 8639).

  1. 12. Non-return of equipment is a serious matter and should be dealt with as a breach of discipline by the student. If the non-return of equipment is not explained to the satisfaction of the University authorities the equipment will be considered stolen and the University will bring disciplinary charges against the borrower and may at its sole discretion refer the matter to the police for recovery of the equipment and prosecution of the borrower.

  1. 13. The Kit Room operates between 09:00-16:00, no equipment pick-ups or drop-offs are accepted outside the operating times.

  1. 14. The borrower is responsible for checking all the equipment before leaving the area to ensure that all the correct equipment is provided and in working order, including any accessories.

  1. 15. The borrower must sign the booking form provided by the Kit Room before leaving the premises. Signing the form states that all items they have received were correct and in order and that the user has performed a check.

  1. 16. The equipment must be returned in the presence of a staff member; in the case of students working in Stockwell Street Studio 1 and Studio 2, equipment still must be delivered back to the kit room.

  1. 17. All faults found must be reported at the time of the return of the booking.

  1. 18. All equipment must be picked up and returned at the selected time, (unless arranged otherwise with a member of staff) by the person listed in the booking form.

  1. 19. A booking consisting of multiple items must be picked up and returned at the same time. (including peripherals, memory cards, readers, etc.)

By accessing Siso and making a booking, the borrower consents to their data (name, attended courses or programmes, university email, Student Number and booking history) being stored on the Siso user database by The University.
